How to connect GA4 and Search Console

The same Google connection, two readers: GA4 and Search Console. What Valhalla reads exactly, what it discovers on its own, what it unlocks in the portal and what it never does.

The situation

After activation, "Needs you" shows a row: Connect · Google — Analytics + Search Console unlock Data health. It is the only connection the portal asks you for on its own, once. Here is why and what happens after.

The steps

  1. Press Connect from Home (or go to Account › Connected systems › Google › Connect).
  2. Choose the Google account that has access to your site's GA4 property and Search Console. It does not need to be the admin account — read access is enough.
  3. Accept the permissions: Analytics (read), Search Console (read), Tag Manager (read), Google Ads, email.
  4. Back in Account: "Google connected. Valhalla can read the data; nothing is written without your approval."

Done. You do not have to pick the property or the site: Valhalla discovers them on its own, matching GA4 property names and the data stream address with your website, and the Search Console site with your domain. If it finds no match, the criteria stay "not measured" — not zero.

What Valhalla reads

From GA4, over the last 28 days:

  • all events and their counts;
  • which are marked as key events (conversions) and how many were recorded;
  • sessions by channel (organic, paid, direct, social).

From Search Console, over the last 30 days:

  • clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, in total and per page;
  • pages with many impressions and under 1% CTR (people see you and do not click);
  • pages ranking 5–12 (one push from page one).

From these, Valhalla builds two things: health criteria for the Data and Visibility areas of the Business map, and findings that become recommendations — for example "GA4 has traffic but no key events defined" (High priority, with the exact event count as evidence) or "3 pages with many impressions and under 1% CTR" (with the URLs and percentages).

What it unlocks

  • Data health in the Business map — until connected, the area is "not measured".
  • Automatic measurement: 14 days after each delivery, Valhalla compares key events and sessions before/after and proposes the result.
  • Real facts in the assistant's answers: "how many conversions did I have this month?" gets a number from GA4, not an estimate.

What it never does

  • It never creates, changes or deletes events, conversions, audiences or properties.
  • It changes nothing in Tag Manager (the permission is read-only).
  • It never accesses visitors' personal data — it reads aggregated reports.
  • It keeps no tokens after Revoke.

What to remember

  • One Google connection, read-only; Valhalla discovers the GA4 property and the Search Console site on its own.
  • It reads: events and key events (28 days), channels, clicks/impressions/CTR/position per page (30 days).
  • It unlocks Data health, automatic 14-day measurement and real facts in the assistant's answers.
  • It writes nothing, anywhere; "Revoke" deletes the tokens.

Frequently asked

I have several GA4 properties. Which one does it read?

The one whose name or data stream matches the website in Account. If the match is unclear, tell Florentin which one it is — he pins it manually.

The connection expired. Why?

Google may revoke access (password change, security policies). The portal shows "Reconnect" in Needs you; redoing it takes a minute.
